Michelle Obama is a living example of the old adage, "Behind every great man, there's a great woman." She is a role model and an inspiration to working women everywhere.
The media coverage of Michelle Obama’s first months in the White House has been so impressive she has recently been described by CNN as the President’s "secret diplomatic weapon." Not only America, but the entire world seems to have fallen in love with the new First Lady, her friendly, approachable and down to earth personality resonating with women, and men, everywhere. But who is the real Michelle? Michelle Obama is so much more than just a public figure. She is a wife and a mother, a business woman, an intellectual, and an avid supporter of women’s rights and diversity. According to CNN, Michelle believes that the presence of a strong woman at the center of a family is a sign of a healthy family. Michelle Obama’s Impressive ResumeMichelle Obama studied sociology and African-American studies at Princeton University, and graduated from Harvard Law School in 1988. After graduating, she joined the Chicago law firm Sidley & Austin, where she met her husband, Barrack Obama, in 1989. She worked on numerous committees and associations, including the Chicago City Hall and the University of Chicago, where she acted as Dean of Student Services. Michelle Obama a 21st Century Style Icon?Fashion insiders have been following Michelle Obama closely as her “White House style” has been developing before their very eyes. Many have compared her to another legendary First Lady, Jackie Kennedy. In all fairness, some of their fashion choices seem quite similar, which makes it entirely credible that Michelle may in fact be getting some of her inspiration from Jackie’s wardrobe. Nevertheless, Michelle's style is not as flashy as Jackie’s was. While Jackie Kennedy showed the world an image of privilege, private schools, high-end designer outfits (Gucci created the original "Jackie" bag in 1950 in her honor) and American “royalty”, Michelle’s style stands for something else altogether. Although Michelle’s style has been equally impeccable and beautiful as Jackie’s was almost fifty years ago, she has made a point of staying away from ostentatious designer outfits, thus projecting the image of a modern and classy American working woman. Her outfits have been not only beautiful and stylish, but also affordable, comfortable, simple yet elegant. In other words: accessible. But regardless of whether Michelle Obama is a fashion icon following in the footsteps of Jackie Kennedy, she is certainly becoming a force to be reckoned with. As Bill Schneider, CNN Senior Political Analyst, said, “Obama's mission is to rebrand the United States as a force for change and hope in the world, just as John F. Kennedy once did. First lady Jacqueline Kennedy was an important asset to JFK. Her charm and sophistication were a sensation overseas. Michelle Obama also embodies a new American brand: diversity and accomplishment.”
